The words you meet on 845.fr, explained simply.
- NFC
- Near Field Communication: contactless communication over a few centimetres. The phone reads an NFC chip (card, sticker) simply by coming close, without any app. Used for contactless payment, badges… and 845.fr cards.
- NFC chip / NFC tag
- A small battery-free circuit embedded in a card or sticker, powered by the phone’s field. NTAG213/215/216 models differ by memory (144, 504 or 888 bytes).
- NDEF
- NFC Data Exchange Format: the standard format of data written on an NFC chip (a web address, a WiFi network, a contact card…). It is what 845.fr builds in the “NFC payload (.bin)” files.
- Locking (chip)
- A write-locked chip can no longer be modified: nobody can reprogram it. A reprogrammable chip can be rewritten with an app such as NFC Tools.
- QR code
- Quick Response code: a square of dots readable by the phone camera, containing a text (often a web address). 845.fr generates QR codes in its own design (round dots, logo) or classic ones.
- Error correction (QR)
- Redundancy built into the QR code (levels L, M, Q, H: 7 to 30 %) that allows reading it even when damaged or partly hidden — this is what allows the logo in the centre of 845.fr QR codes.
- Short link
- A shortened web address (e.g. 845.fr/abc) that redirects to a long one. Advantages: easy to type, dictate and print, and editable afterwards without remaking the medium.
- Alias
- The code you choose for a short link instead of the random one (e.g. 845.fr/menu).
- vCard (.vcf)
- Standard contact-card format (name, phones, emails, address, photo…). When a .vcf file is opened, the phone offers to add the contact. The 845.fr business card provides one that is always up to date.
- Virtual business card
- A personal web page (845.fr/@handle) presenting your details, with an “Add to contacts” button. Shared by link, QR code or NFC card; editable at any time.
- SSID
- Service Set Identifier: the name of your WiFi network as it appears in the list of networks.
- WPA / WPA2 / WPA3
- WiFi security standards. WPA2 is the most widespread, WPA3 the most recent. Choose “WPA/WPA2/WPA3” on 845.fr unless your router is WPA3-only.
- WEP
- Old, weak and obsolete WiFi security. Replace it with WPA2 or WPA3 in your router settings.
- Hidden network
- A WiFi network whose name is not broadcast. The 845.fr QR code and NFC card handle it with the “hidden network” option.
- Wi-Fi Simple Configuration (WSC)
- Standard NDEF format describing a WiFi network on an NFC chip. Android uses it to join the network when the card is tapped.
- Disposable email
- A temporary email address (xxx@845.fr) that forwards messages to your real inbox for a chosen duration, then disappears. Handy for signing up without giving your real address.
- Sub-addressing (+)
- Adding “+word” before the @ of an address (e.g. name+shop@845.fr): the message still arrives, and the word tells you who used the address.
- SPF / DKIM / DMARC
- Three techniques proving that an email really comes from the domain it claims. 845.fr checks them on incoming messages (anti-spam) and publishes them for its own sending.
- Stand
- A small counter or table display (often acrylic) that stands upright. 845.fr version: built-in NFC WiFi card and visible QR code.
- PVC
- The rigid plastic of bank cards and 845.fr cards (0.76 mm), durable and colour-printable.
- Proof
- A preview sent by email before manufacturing a custom design, to be approved by the customer.
- SEO / GEO
- Search Engine Optimization (ranking in search engines) and Generative Engine Optimization (being correctly understood and cited by AI assistants). 845.fr takes both into account in its code, without cluttering the page.
